Dr. Heisman is a licensed clinical psychologist who works with clients of all ages focusing on the evaluation and assessment of educational/learning difficulties and ADHD, as well as comprehensive psychological assessments. Dr. Heisman has worked across multiple settings to include hospitals, private practice, neuropsychological and rehabilitation clinics, and forensic facilities. Additionally, she completed a fellowship in the Adult Psychoanalytic Fellowship Program at the Baltimore Washington Center for Psychoanalysis. Dr. Heisman’s clinical work focuses on cognitive and educational assessment, traumatic brain injury, and forensic and operational psychology.
EDUCATION: B.S. in Foreign Service, Georgetown University, M.A. in Comparative Politics, American University in Cairo, M.A. in Clinical Psychology, Argosy University, and PsyD. in Clinical Psychology, Argosy University.
INTERNSHIP: Saint Elizabeths Hospital, Washington D.C. where she provided psychological treatment and assessment services to a diverse Civil and Forensic committed inpatient population with severe and chronic mental illness. She also completed a rotation at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia where she completed Competency to Stand Trial evaluations and assisted with Criminal Responsibility evaluations.
POST DOCTORAL EXPERIENCES: Consultant to a national 501C3 organization of academic and professional instructors empowering and enabling students to maximize their potential for academic success. Board of Directors/Consultant, for a nonprofit that helps provide resources to families who have experienced child loss through miscarriage or stillbirth. In addition to her practice at Mindwell, Dr. Heisman has also served as an Adjunct Professor at George Mason University in the Forensic Psychology department.

Dr. Heisman’s primary specialty is assessment. She has a special interest in the early detection and intervention of learning disorders. As a parent, Dr. Heisman understands the stress and anxiety involved with the assessment process and works with families in a compassionate and timely manner to foster an assessment environment where the client feels supported and excited about collaborating to answer diagnostic questions in order to promote health and personal growth. Dr. Heisman creates and administers individualized assessment programs for clients of all ages and backgrounds. Dr. Heisman believes in a holistic approach to assessment that focuses on educational, social, emotional, and cognitive goals in order to establish an effective treatment plan to address the client’s short and long-term needs. Dr. Heisman believes in building on clients’ strengths in formulating successful treatment programs that are adapted to their specific needs.
In her free time, Dr. Heisman enjoys spending time with her husband and son, as well as training her dogs, Luna and Link. She enjoys watching classic movies (Humphrey Bogart movies are a favorite), cycling, and culinary experimentation.
