How can I begin to articulate the amazingness of Dr. Heisman? Several years ago, we had the blessing of being referred to Mindwell and were fortunate enough to be assigned to Dr. Heisman. We were in a state – knowing our child was struggling but, not understanding exactly with what and not knowing how to help him. It’s an incredibly scary place to be as a parent. In steps Dr. Heisman. She was incredible with our son. The testing process is lengthy and exhausting but, she made it as easy as possible. My son loved her! But, her magic didn’t end there. Dr. Heisman told me that no one knows my son’s brain better than her and generously offered to be a resource for us. Can you believe that each time my son has had new IEP goals established, that I’ve emailed Dr. Heisman and she has taken her precious time to review them and provide her guidance?!? And, that’s with no appointment! That is Dr. Heisman just being an incredibly caring, generous person – willing to share her expertise with a mom just trying to do what’s best for her son. I have referred five families to Dr. Heisman. Each of them were in despair – knowing their child needed help but, not sure what was going on and what to do. Each of those families have called me in tears after meeting with Dr. Heisman – feeling like they finally had answers and direction on what to do next. Dr. Heisman is brilliant and has a gift for understanding kids. She’s a mother herself and her genuine care for children shines through. She consistently goes above and beyond to help families. She has been such an incredible blessing to my family and my friends. I could not recommend her more!!!

“To provide an update since we met – her special education category has been changed to SLD, new goals have been added to her IEP, and we have found a tutor. We’ve been working on several of your other recommendations as well….I want to add that she has shown improvement. We have worked hard to try different things at home too and it has been a positive learning experience for the family. Notably, I have often referred back to my notes from your workshop on promoting motivation, and realize for kids to change, parents must first do so themselves. I cannot tell you what a relief this is. And I want to thank you for meeting with us to get this kid on a different path. Again the school system wants to wait and see hoping he “will really mature in tenth grade” of course each year this is what the administration has told us will happen the next year. We still spend a lot of time on homework but there is a light at the end of the tunnel for everyone!

And it’s not just graduation, but a successful graduation and perhaps even college. Thank you, THANK YOU.

“We were referred to MindWell by a counselor who described them as being able to get at the root of the problem. We had both our sons tested and to our relief we did find the source of their problems…they each have layers of learning disability. Having our sons tested brought about a change in our families attitudes. All denial was displaced, and replaced by hope. As parents we had more understanding for our sons in the way they process information. We were empowered to advocate for them and bring understanding to their teachers. We grew closer as a family and enjoyed one another more.”

It was important to us that you did all of the assessment yourself and that you scheduled additional sessions as needed to accommodate her attention and stamina. We also appreciated your prompt feedback, in-depth interpretation of the results and that most of the report was detailed recommendations with references and even suggested referrals to specialists in the area. Your assessment was critical in our understanding of our daughter’s true strengths and needs and in facilitating finding the educational and remedial programs that are right for her.
