Transcript of Tutorial by Dr. Rachna Varia, co-founder of MindWell Psychology

I want to share a metaphor with you about how we do testing similar to how early astronomers would map out a constellation.

Early astronomers looked into the night sky and studied the stars, but they did more than just look. They observed and made connections. They created our constellations.

Starting by examining one star, they then looked at the other data points in the sky and mapped out a picture. By starting with one star, they examined how other stars were related to each other. They created stories with a rich history.

At MindWell Psychology, psychologists map out your child’s learning constellation by not just looking at one data point, but how different points relate to each other and create your child’s unique profile of strengths and weaknesses.

For example, if your child is struggling with memory, we want to find out why. We determine if their memory challenges may be due to inattention, not being able to visualize what they’re hearing, needing more repetition, being anxious, or feeling overwhelmed, or a combination of different facts.

This is what makes each child’s constellation different. While the stars may be the same, each constellation is unique.

We will examine each star or data point and create a map of his or her constellation to help inform recommendations.
